ABOUT THE SONG

About Oh How Good To Be Together

We wrote "Oh How Good To Be Together" during a season when church doors were closed and screens became our windows into worship. But what began as a longing born from absence became something deeper: distance didn't create our need for one another — it simply unveiled what was always true.

The song opens with a sigh of recognition: "Oh how good to be together in this weary world we trod." There's mystery in how shared weariness becomes lighter somehow, how the weight we carry alone transforms when we discover others walking the same worn paths. We gather not because life is easy, but precisely because life is hard.

Something beautiful happens when we recognize ourselves as "kindred in the house of God." It's the recognition of family resemblance in unexpected faces, the way a child's eyes carry hints of their father's. This kinship flows from wells deeper than our choosing, binding hearts across generations and circumstances rooted in our shared adoption into God's household — a reality that becomes tangible when our voices join in praise.

Perhaps most powerfully, the song reminds us that worship itself is formative. When we "raise a banner of salvation" together, we're not just commemorating past victories but actively participating in God's ongoing work of shaping us into His people. Our voices joined in praise become both declaration and transformation — we sing our way into deeper faith.

We hope this song becomes a gentle invitation to wonder at the gift hiding in plain sight—how the simple act of showing up together creates something sacred. Every gathering whispers of the great reunion to come, and every voice raised in harmony becomes proof that the God who walked you through darkness is still writing your story into a symphony too beautiful for any one instrument to play alone.

Lyrics

VERSE 1:

Oh how good to be together

In this weary world we trod

What a gift, what a treasure

Kindred in the house of God

VERSE 2:

On this day the Lord has fashioned

Come rejoice with all your might

Raise a banner of salvation

He has led us through the night

CHORUS:

Oh the joy, oh the sweetness

To be gathered in the name of the Lord

Evermore, he will keep us

From the valley to the golden shore

VERSE 3:

When it looked like evil conquered

When we felt the darkest hour

In despair we sought the Father

And he has proved his mighty power

CHORUS

VERSE 4:

Tell the theme of his provision

How he met our every need

He has been our firm foundation

And he will ever, always be

CHORUS
